The West zone (Sphal 27) area is underlain by Devonian to Permian Stikine Assemblage rocks and Upper Triassic Stuhini Group rocks, which have been intruded by Late Triassic to Early Jurassic monzonitic intrusions, Eocene granitic dikes, sills and stocks and Miocene basaltic and rhyolitic dikes. Mineralization on the property is dominated by copper-gold bearing porphyry and porphyry-related disseminated, vein-controlled and breccia hosted mineralization.

The West zone (Sphal 27), which extends to the east and northeast from the Sphal 29 initial post, consists of disseminated chalcopyrite and lesser pyrite. In 1970, Kennco/BIK drilled four AQ holes on the West Zone totaling 477.3 metres. Only one hole intersected significant mineralization, with 6.1 metres grading about 0.25 per cent copper and 9.1 metres grading about 0.3 to 0.5 per cent copper (Private report for Silver Standard Mines Ltd by Milne, 1970). The area is shown on maps as orthoclase syenite. Reports indicated a 44 metre chip sample grading 0.44 copper was taken in the Sphal 27 vicinity (Assessment Report 20956).

It was reported in 2006 (Assessment Report 28624) that the West zone (Sphal 27) and the Wall zone (Tangle) may be part of one large zone as indicated by a continuous soil geochemical anomaly.
